Most NoSQL systems are great at storing document-oriented content or hierarchical data structures, but building relationships across documents (and more importantly querying across multiple dissimilar documents) is often very expensive computationally. RDF-based solutions on the other hand are often very effective at querying relationally, but, sequencing and managing hierarchical documents is at best complicated. Hybrid solutions attempt to use the best of both, with JSON or XML containing the primary data stores and RDF managing querying across multiple documents. This talk looks at issues such as synchronization of data, reducing latency, making use of SPARQL and building JavaScript oriented clients. Both MarkLogic and the combination of Node, Couchbase and Jena will be discussed. This will also focus on the business advantages to going with such a hybrid solution.
